Kuttampuzha is a jungle paradise nestled in the Kothamangalam Taluk, which is known as the Gateway to the High Range. This village is visited by many tourists from Kochi city on weekends to bathe and play in the Pooyamkutty river which flows through the dense forest for many miles without being untouched. The villagers say that the water of this river has medicinal properties and is an excellent remedy for skin diseases. Kuttampuzha, is an open wildlife sanctuary, is home to wild elephants and many other wide varieties of animals and also to some of the world’s most notable migratory birds. The famous Dr Salim Ali bird sanctuary and Edamalyar dam are situated in this village. The tribal population in this village is 17.2 percentage which includes Muthuvan, arayan and mannan etc… It is a favorite destination of filmmakers and has been the location of many famou films. The famous movie Pulimurugan was shot in puliyoor village in kuttampuzha. Tourists can feel the coolness of wind and freshness of wild streams when they enter to this village. The old alwaye Munnar road which was built during British times is not used for transportation now. In 1924 floods, the road inside pooyamkutty forest was damaged collaterally. During British era this Royal road was used by British planters and business man to bring materials and visit Munnar.
